About The Position

This Seasonal Fullersburg Woods Operations Assistant position supports the Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center, educational programming, and assists district staff and volunteers in the coordination and execution of special events.

Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older at time of hire.
  • Previous experience in customer service, event coordination, or planning.
  • Valid Driver's License in good standing.
  • Must have and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification or obtain upon hire.
  • Must have and maintain Illinois Mandated Reporter certification or obtain upon hire.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public.
  • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable interacting with live animals.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Fullersburg Woods Campus operations including Nature Education Center front desk management, Graue Mill operations.
  • Greet and provide district information to the public regarding the preserves, facility operations, recreational opportunities, rules, and regulations; provide directions to visitors during events.
  • Assist in the development of programs, nature center activities, and educational materials. Possibly assist with the care and feeding of animals at the Nature Center.
  • Oversee rental events and perform set-up and tear-down tasks for district events, including moving tables and chairs, placing signage, cleaning, decorating, performing walk through inspections checking for safety and cleanliness, and preparing necessary equipment such as whiteboards or projectors.
  • Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system for the Fullersburg Woods Campus, including processing transactions, handling cash and credit payments, and maintaining accurate sales records.
  • May operate district vehicles, hand and power tools for repairs and maintenance; including hand drills or like trimmers.
  • Keep neat and accurate records including visitor logs, event sign-in/sign-out sheets, and event reports.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies by following the District's Emergency Response Plan and established safety protocols.
  • Follow all safety rules and support a clean, hazard-free working environment.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service when interacting with internal and external stakeholders.
