About The Position

As a Day Camp staff member, you will provide for the effective and efficient day-to-day operation of the Summer Day Camp Program, ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Counselors can be attending high school)
  • Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.
  • Work experience with children preferred.
  • Must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment. Must also complete First Aid and CPR. Training will be provided upon hire.
  • Must be able to work as a member of a team.
  • Must work well with children.
  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
  • Lifting, pulling and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds
  • May require bending, squatting, walking
  • May require standing for extended periods

Responsibilities

  • Lead or assist grades K-8 in both small and large group settings including, but not limited to, Bible, Arts and Crafts, Music and Drama, Computers, Recreation, large group games, outdoor sports, indoor activities, etc.
  • Develop and implement programming for all afternoon activities, including planning, set-up, and clean-up of all activities.
  • Provide a safe, clean and loving environment for all youth.
  • Properly report all incidents and activities (major or minor), involving students, staff, and parents to Christian Education Director. The Christian Education Director is responsible for communicating with parents.
  • Provide support and respect to other teachers and counselors.
  • Be a part of the support team for other teachers when not teaching or preparing your activities.
  • Play with the youth, doing what they enjoy.
  • Closely monitor the youth during all activities, especially those in high-risk areas such as the gymnasium, restrooms, and any time we leave our facility.
  • Show respect to all youth, staff members, and parents.
  • Always follow proper procedures for discipline and ask for assistance when needed.
  • Be available for other duties as assigned by the Christian Education Director.
