About The Position

This is a seasonal summer position from May 16 – July 31, 2026. The hours of work will be between 7:00am – 6:00pm, Monday – Friday. For the week of May 16 - 23, the hours of work will be between 9:00am – 8:00pm. Employees may work up to 40 hours per week during weeks of camp. Under general supervision, this position assists recreation staff in directing recreational activities for youth, ages 6 through 12, in the Gem City Summer Day Camp program.

Requirements

  • Must successfully complete in-house First Aid/CPR/AED certification during staff training week.
  • Must have availability during all of camp: STAFF TRAINING / PARENT ORIENTATIONS – Saturday, May 16 - Saturday, May 23, 9:00am – 8:00pm WEEK 1 – Monday, May 25 – Friday, May 29, 7:00am – 6:00pm WEEK 2 – Monday, June 1 – Friday, June 5, 7:00am – 6:00pm WEEK 3 – Monday, June 8 – Friday, June 12, 7:00am – 6:00pm WEEK 4 – Monday, June 15 – Friday, June 19, 7:00am – 6:00pm WEEK 5 – Monday, June 22 – Friday, June 26, 7:00am – 6:00pm NO CAMP – Monday, June 29 – Friday, July 3 WEEK 6 – Monday, July 6 – Friday, July 10, 7:00am – 6:00pm WEEK 7 – Monday, July 13 – Friday, July 17, 7:00am – 6:00pm WEEK 8 – Monday, July 20 – Friday, July 24, 7:00am – 6:00pm WEEK 9 – Monday, July 27 – Friday, July 31, 7:00am – 6:00pm

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience (paid or voluntary) in providing instruction or guidance to youths in areas such as athletics, arts and crafts, dance, group game activities, or other related recreational activities, or supplemental coursework in recreation, athletics, arts and crafts, or related fields.
  • Ability to enforce department, facility and camp facility rules and regulations.
  • Skill in written and oral communications.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a fun and safe environment for camp program participants.
  • Leading participants in a variety of recreational activities.
  • Chaperoning field trips and other organized activities and games.
  • Assisting in supervising the activities of children participating in summer camp program.
  • Assisting with cleaning and maintaining recreation facilities and equipment, as necessary.
  • Assisting with serving snacks daily.
  • Perform First Aid and complete incident reports as needed.
  • Performing associated duties as required.
