About The Position

The Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County (BGCSLC) is dedicated to changing the lives of youth by providing a world-class club experience that offers opportunities for a GREAT FUTURE. The Certified Teachers' primary role is to deliver direct service to youth club members through activities focused on Academic Success, Good Character, and Healthy Lifestyles. They are responsible for creating a safe environment through positive guidance and discipline, ensuring a well-rounded and enriching experience for all club members. Additionally, Certified Teachers must carefully plan and implement program activities that foster fun, supportive relationships, opportunities, expectations, and recognition.

Requirements

  • Must submit to and pass Level 2 background screening through the Florida Department of Children & Families.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug test.
  • Current Florida Educator's Certificate.
  • A bachelor’s degree in education, Psychology, or any other related subject is imperative.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the field of teaching is necessary to reach this position.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently without supervision; ability to make decisions independently.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion, a high level of professionalism, and diplomatic etiquette.

Nice To Haves

  • Current CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics “STEM” curriculum.
  • Responsible for providing instructions in the main core subjects including reading, English language arts, science, and mathematics.
  • Ensuring all lessons and activities will be delivered and facilitated using engaging, creative, innovative, and “hands-on” techniques.
  • Select and modify instructional materials and plans to enhance learning and motivate students to actively engage in a meaningful learning experience.
  • Manage materials, equipment, and time effectively; interpret data for diagnosis and instructional planning; maintain accurate and appropriate records and files.
  • Provides club members opportunities to use technology; and ensures that club member growth and achievements are continuous and appropriate for the age groups.
  • Works closely with the School-Based Club Director to communicate effectively with parents.
  • Actively participate in BGCA training, internal training, and All Staff meetings.
  • Report suspicions of abuse or neglect to the State Abuse Hotline.
  • Be on-site during all hours of a program operation to ensure that all activities support student instructions.
  • Utilize 30 minutes per day provided for set-up and planning.
  • Support other projects as needed.
  • Completes any additional assignments as requested by the Club Director.
