About The Position

Thurston County Public Works is recruiting for (2) two Seasonal Building & Grounds Specialists to join our dynamic, energetic, and innovative Parks & Trails team. The successful candidate will perform landscaping maintenance in county parks, trails, medians and roundabouts, as well as janitorial duties in park restrooms. This temporary/seasonal position generally works 40 hours per week; weekend work is required and is anticipated to last six (6) months from the hire date.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience working in landscaping, horticulture, carpentry, forestry or other closely related field.
  • Current Washington State Driver's License.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Experience in grounds and equipment maintenance is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Constructs, alters, maintains, and repairs a variety of structures and landscaping. Depending upon area of assignments, duties may include, but are not limited to, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, irrigation systems, pruning, planting, culverts, lawns, fences, trails, playground equipment, roofs, and/or bridges.
  • When assigned, operates a variety of equipment, which might include hand tools, power tools, light equipment, tractor, and other equipment to construct, remodel, or repair of building, landscape and in-ground irrigation systems.  Performs basic mechanical repairs and maintenance on hand tools, light power equipment, and/or vehicles.
  • Participates in planting trees, shrubs and flowers, and maintains landscaped areas including mowing, trimming, pruning, and fertilizing and weed control.  When assigned, applies pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers.
