About The Position

Under general supervision, assists in coordinating summer day camp to ensure customer satisfaction and safety for employees, clients and visitors at Parks and Recreation Department facilities and programs. Requirements

Education and Experience: One (1) year of college preferred; AND one (1) year experience working with children required, with supervisory experience in a school or camp environment preferred.
Required Licenses or Certifications: Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Must be able to successfully complete within two (2) weeks of employment: First Aid and Safety/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) / Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training.
Required Knowledge of: Operational characteristics, services and activities of summer day camp management and program planning and coordination.
Principles and practices of employee supervision.
Principles and practices of customer service.
Federal and State safety laws and regulations.
Required Skill in: Interpreting customer and facility needs and solving customer service and public relations issues.
Demonstrating the ability to make sound decisions regarding the enforcement of disciplinary guidelines.
Analyzing problems, providing alternatives, and identifying solutions in support of established goals.
Responding to emergencies and determining corrective actions using available resources.
Establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with City employees, camp participants, their parents or guardians, and the general public.
Operating and maintaining audio visual equipment and a personal computer utilizing a variety of business software and communications equipment.
Effective, clear and concise communication, both verbally and in writing.
Work is performed in an office environment and outdoors in all weather conditions, with potential exposure to wet surfaces, infectious diseases and blood borne pathogens; is subject to sitting, standing, bending and reaching for extended periods of time; and must be able to safely pull, push, lift and carry items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
Must be able to work irregular hours including weekdays, weekends, holidays and evenings.
May be required to work immediately before, during or after an emergency or disaster.
NOTE: This position is designated safety and/or security sensitive.

Responsibilities

Assists the Recreation Supervisor and Camp Coordinator in the planning and training stages of camp preparation.
Oversees the Counselor in Training (CIT) program, meeting with and checking in on CIT’s on a weekly basis.
Assists camp staff members in planning and coordinating high quality and consistent recreation programs and enjoyable experiences for campers.
Meets with parents, children and program staff to resolve disciplinary issues; evaluates and determines the enforcement of discipline guidelines; documents counseling sessions and prepares related reports.
Memorizes all emergency procedures and enforces camp rules.
Prepares and assists in maintaining facilities including but not limited to supervising and participating in summer day camp operation to ensure a safe condition and to meet community needs; must be in compliance with the City’s strategic objectives, policies and procedures, and State and Federal laws.
Oversees the performance of assigned staff to evaluate staff performance and consistent rule enforcement and reports findings, following established operation procedures.
Models good behavior for campers and staff as it relates to sportsmanship, manners, and respectfulness.
Assists recreation staff with activity programming; monitors facility bookings and enrollment; facilitates staff in-service trainings.
Manages a variety of administrative activities including computer records and cash management, accident/injury reports, work activity reports, participants’ behavior reports, staff performance reports, coaching and documentation and maintaining an inventory of supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
