About The Position

Regulatory and technical work monitoring beach use for compliance with regulations governing the Sandy Neck Barrier Beach including site specific rules, applicable town ordinances, and state and federal laws. Provide detailed information about environmental processes and resource management at Sandy Neck. Assist Marine and Environmental Affairs Division with functions at other locations within the town, other duties as necessary. Examples of duties/responsibilities: Employee's primary responsibility entails upholding compliance with regulations established to protect the environmental integrity of the Sandy Neck Barrier Beach. Duties require constant contact and interaction with members of the public requiring patience, excellent communication skills, and tact. Informs the public about science and management concepts in order to provide context for enforcement of regulations and any necessary restrictions on visitor activities. Represents and promotes the interests, goals, and policies of the Town of Barnstable and Sandy Neck when dealing with the public.

Requirements

  • High School graduation with college level coursework in resource management, parks, environmental science, teaching, criminal justice, or related field.
  • Two years experience in resource management, security, or nature education is preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification in First Aid and C.P.R. required
  • Must possess valid license for operating motor vehicles in Massachusetts.
  • Knowledgeable of the principles of natural resource management and biological processes.
  • Employee must effectively communicate knowledge to individuals from various age groups, educational levels, and backgrounds.
  • Cognizant of legal ramifications of endangered species legislation, property ownership, public lands, and medical liability, and able to protect the town's interest in that regard.
  • Able to assess complex situations under pressure, and to deal with caustic people in an appropriate manner.
  • Required to wear an issued uniform and responsible for associated equipment.
  • Employee must maintain uniforms and equipment to high professional standards.
  • REQUIRED TO WORK ALL WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS THROUGHOUT TERM OF EMPLOYMENT.

Nice To Haves

  • L.G.T., First Responder, Wilderness, or other advanced medical certification preferred.
