About The Position

Peer Academic Coaches provide academic support to students through one-on-one collaborative consultations and facilitation of accountability groups. The academic coach proactively guides student development toward a deeper understanding of executive functions, time management, study strategies and test preparation skills to help build confidence in their academic abilities. This role requires a proactive and friendly approach and offers the opportunity to enhance academic skills, while gaining valuable experience in leadership, learning strategies, professional and interpersonal communications skills, time management, and organization. Peer Coaches will work towards College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification through training and service hours. Starting Pay: $13.75/hr with opportunities for promotions and pay increases with experience and training up to $15.00/hr Learn more about our team at wlc.richmond.edu Specific Duties: Assist students with acquiring academic skills and encourage active engagement in elevating academic performance. Provide students with one-on-one collaborative coaching consultations. Facilitate accountability study groups. Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions and student progress. Support Weinstein Learning Center by sharing resources and information about services, attending events and creating content as needed. Attend peer coach training sessions and ongoing professional development. Adhere to the Weinstein Learning Center’s policies, the university’s academic integrity policies. Requirements: Work a minimum of 6-8 hours per week Attend a minimum of 10 hours of (paid) training per semester Provide a statement of support from a University staff or faculty member recommendation form link below Qualifications: Currently enrolled at University of Richmond as a full-time student. Solid academic performance (GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred). Competency in executive functions, organization and time management skills. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and levels of experience. Willingness to learn how to help others with patience, compassion, adaptability, and respect. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Must be reliable and committed to fulfilling duties, responding promptly to communication, facilitating appointments and study groups on time and meeting deadlines.
