About The Position

The Student Marketing Assistant supports the marketing and promotional efforts of the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) and Registered Student Organizations (RSOs). This position plays a key role in developing and implementing creative marketing strategies that increase student engagement, elevate CSI’s brand, and promote campus events and resources. The role is structured around weekly project-based work, RSO and CSI event coverage, in-office accountability, and creative ownership. The Student Marketing Assistant reports to the Operations Coordinator and collaborates with other Student Marketing Assistants.

Requirements

  • Be a current full-time University of Richmond Student
  • Demonstrated interest in marketing, digital media, or student engagement.
  • Demonstrated understanding of effective marketing strategies, inclusive of social media, to reach college students.
  • Experience with social media platforms/management software, graphic design, and content creation tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Suite).
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic photography and photo editing skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of a semester-long Marketing Timeline and recurring weekly content series (e.g., event roundups, student spotlights, social features).
  • Design graphics, flyers, and other promotional materials using tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Manage and contribute to CSI’s social media presence through using a shared content calendar, drafting copy for posts, and scheduling posts.
  • Support sudden or high-priority project needs as they arise throughout the semester.
  • Identify upcoming events on Spider Central for marketing support and photography.
  • Photograph and/or record at least 2 student organization and CSI events a month, ensuring strong visual documentation of all photos requested on your shot list (n.b. shot list will be assigned by the Operations Coordinator).
  • Coordinate coverage schedules and determine appropriate time commitments based on the size and nature of each event.
  • Submit edited photos and brief coverage reports by set deadline.
  • Create at least 1 social media post a month highlighting the events you covered.
  • Take initiative on one recurring independent project each semester (e.g., social media series, spotlight series) that contributes to CSI’s promotional goals.
  • Maintain ownership of assigned projects and deliver consistent weekly progress.
  • Attend weekly team meetings with the Operations Coordinator to receive assignments, check in on progress, and brainstorm content.
  • Work at least one scheduled shift in a CSI space (CSI Office or THC 340) per week, working on any assigned tasks.
  • Hold marketing office hours for RSOs.
  • Complete any other duties and/or projects as assigned by the professional staff
