Works under the general supervision of an assigned supervisor or Command staff to ensure the integrity of evidence by collecting DNA, fingerprints, inked ten-prints, and other evidence for deceased, civilians, parolees, and applicants. Processes crime scene by identifying, photographing, collecting, and preserving evidence found at crime/accident scenes. Prepares crime scene sketches. Packages evidence for tagging and return to Property and Evidence Room. Utilizes alternate light sources, chemical and physical processes, scientific methods, and equipment for the detection and collection of evidence. Documents work activities as part of case file. Gathers evidence found at crime/accident scene. Transports evidence to the property room or to the proper designation. Processes paper materials for prints using chemical processes. Collects hair, fiber, and trace evidence. Maintains crime scene vehicles, lights, equipment, and supplies, Creates and prepares various reports for documentation of scenes and evidence. Enters and modifies evidence information in the appropriate technology system. Assists officers, staff members, and other agencies with crime scene processing. Testifies in court for chain of custody, evidence collection techniques and processes/preservation of evidence. Keeps accurate records to ensure proper evidence handling. Ensures equipment is clean, maintained and in good working condition. Follows procedures when identifying, collecting, and processing physical evidence. Travels to various crime scene throughout the City of Memphis. Communicates will staff and management regarding crime scene procedures and protocol.
