About The Position

Axle is a bioscience and information technology company that offers advancements in translational research, biomedical informatics, and data science applications to research centers and healthcare organizations nationally and abroad. With experts in biomedical science, software engineering, and program management, we focus on developing and applying research tools and techniques to empower decision-making and accelerate research discoveries. We work with some of the top research organizations and facilities in the country including multiple institutes at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Axle is seeking a Scientist to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the National Institute on Aging (NIA) located in Baltimore, MD. The primary objective of this position is to provide support services and deliverables to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute on Aging (NIA).

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in a scientific field.
  • Field of Study: Biology
  • Proficiency with MS office suite.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Update and maintain laboratory notebooks and databases.
  • Attend laboratory meetings and present results and findings to staff.
  • Perform chromatin biology techniques.
  • Perform basic cell culture.
  • Carry out basic molecular biology and biochemistry experiments.
  • Monitor maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Design and carry out CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing in cell lines and mice.
  • Prepare and analyze DNA, RNA, and chromatin from cell subsets.
  • Prepare and submit manuscripts for publication and guide through the review process.
  • Maintain critical mouse strains for studies.
  • Support the planning and execution of research experiments in the context of the laboratory's overall research program.
  • Support laboratory staff on research projects and techniques.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and train others in their use.
  • Assist in maintaining adequate space and facilities for ongoing and projected research studies.
  • Evaluate, analyze, and interpret research data.
  • Communicate results and methods in reports, presentations, and manuscripts.
  • Coordinate with junior staff to modify research protocols.
  • Work with Principal Investigators in scheduling and prioritizing instrument usage.
  • Present research at national scientific meetings and symposia.
  • Provide interpretation of results, guidance, and scientific support to the management team.
  • Produce research reports and regularly communicate results to staff and collaborators.
  • Mentor junior level scientists.
