About The Position

At Corbion, we exist to champion preservation in all its forms, preserving food and food production, health, and our planet. The Scientist, Antioxidant is based in the Lenexa, KS North American corporate office and reports to the Sr Scientist, AOX RD&A. The Scientist AOX will collaborate with business development, sales, customers, suppliers, and internal RDA application team to develop enabling technologies that support the development and application of antioxidant preservation products. This role is instrumental in the execution of technical roadmaps against strategic priority areas for functional antioxidant ingredients and antioxidant blends. The Scientist AOX will conduct experimentation through antioxidant application usage and formulation, accessing antioxidant functionality through related testing methodology. They will support project plans, offer technical insights, engage in project feasibility analysis, and execute projects to meet project milestones. This position will work cross functionally with product management, sales, business development and production teams to launch new products, support onboarding of new technologies, and trouble shoot problems to offer sound technical solutions. The ideal candidate has experience utilizing and studying antioxidant ingredients in application, and formulation and application of antioxidants in meat products, sauce and dressing, fats and oils, bakery products and/or pet food.

Requirements

  • Broadly trained food science professional with experience and knowledge in antioxidants related to the application areas of meat products, sauce and dressing, fats and oils, bakery, pet food or other culinary applications.
  • Capable of self-management to support innovation projects through stage gate process and coordinating RD&A inputs with commercial inputs to deliver the project results.
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree or PhD in Food Science and Technology or related disciplines in Chemistry or Biochemistry (or other equivalent discipline).
  • Between 2 to 5 years' experience in food research and application labs.
  • Broad knowledge of antioxidant products and their applications in food.
  • Good understanding of the principles of food science, food ingredient functionalities, analytical techniques, and food processing.
  • A customer focus, drive for results/can-do mentality is necessary.
  • Capable of building trusted relationship with external and internal customers to become their go-to expert.
  • Use of critical thinking to investigate and resolve problems related to raw materials, methodology, or finished product applications and scale up.
  • High motivated self-starter/time-management, with the passion of driving for results.
  • Strong people skills, with open and clear communication skills.
  • Capable of working effectively in cross-functional team environment.
  • Capable of self-management, and multiple project/tasks management.
  • A team-player who builds on the expertise of others.
  • Problem solving skills, understanding of experimental design and statistical analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a technical team member in a cross-functional team environment to deliver business needed results.
  • Support the development of project plans, offer technical insights including unique formulated blends, project feasibility analysis, and execute the projects to meet project milestones.
  • Engage with customers and suppliers to develop enabling technologies that will support the creation of innovative products unique to their applications.
  • Collaborate directly with customers in launching new products, giving training on new technologies, and offering technical solutions while trouble shooting problems.
  • Serve as a technical resource and expert for both internal and external customers.
  • Function as a collaborator, contributing to regional and global technical strategy projects and innovation programs.
