About The Position

We work with some of the top research organizations and facilities in the country including multiple institutes at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Axle is looking to add a driven, flexible, organized, and meticulous Scientist to our dynamic team. The Contractor(s) shall provide services in support of the overall functions of the Laboratory of Immunogenetics (LIG), Division of Intramural Research (DIR).

Requirements

  • Ph.D. with a major structural biology, biophysics or immunology component
  • Four (4) years of related work experience
  • Expertise with structural biology and protein design

Responsibilities

  • Perform research experiments using expertise in structural vaccinology and immunology, in protein biochemistry, including biophysical tools such as surface plasmon resonance, in protein design, including both rational and AI/machine learning-aided approaches such as Schrödinger and ProteinMPNN
  • Perform experiments on infectious diseases including viral and parasitic pathogens
  • Work on isolation of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies that protect against various diseases from clinical patient samples
  • Assist with projects on next-generation immunogen design against malaria
  • Provide expertise and advice to aid other lab members in a wide variety of procedures and techniques, which may include, but are not limited to: structural analysis, biophysical analysis, immunogen design, protein production and purification, and other experiments as required by the Unit.
  • Perform upkeep and routine maintenance for project, maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment including chemicals, biological materials, etc., required to handle biological materials, recombinant protein materials, acids, biological wastes, etc., maintaining work bench and equipment related to projects.
  • Catalog and label laboratory samples and consumables.
  • Liaise with vendors as needed.
  • Maintain detailed records of experiments and their results and prepare the information resulting from these experiments for presentations at laboratory-wide meetings and for publication.
  • Writing reports of findings, stating methods and procedures, including any modifications employed, specimens and materials involved and results of experiments.
  • Interpreting, evaluating, and discussing the results of each experiment with the Federal Task Leader as part of the planning process for subsequent studies.
  • Operate and communicate effectively in a group, team-oriented working environment.
  • Work with and support others in a collegial, open, respectful, and interactive working manner.
  • Work collaboratively with others in the lab to generate data for publications.
