Abdera Therapeutics is seeking a talented analytical chemist at the senior scientist level or higher, who has experience with both small and large molecule mass spectrometry and other related techniques such as HPLC and spectroscopy. The ideal candidate will support (radio-)chemistry, biologics and CMC teams to adapt the Abdera platform by analyzing bioconjugates, linkers and precursors, formulations, and other samples as required. This position will involve creative and intelligently guided development of analytical methodology for aiding both R&D and QA/QC in their efforts to create the best-in-class radio-conjugates for novel cancer therapies.

Requirements

  • PhD in analytical, biochemistry, physical or a related chemistry field.
  • 8+ years of experience in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry; or, Equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
  • 4+ years overall experience in development of analytical/physical chemistry methods, including mass spectrometry and spectroscopy methods, preferably in a regulated environment (such as for example ISO, GLP laboratories).
  • Experience working with advanced high-resolution mass spectrometry is required.
  • Experience with characterization of proteins and conjugate is a must, small-molecules (linker technology) and peptides is a plus.
  • Adhere to the relevant regulations and requirements for the safe handling of radioactive materials.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of a variety of analytical techniques for analyzing large molecules.
  • Familiarity with HPLC-UV/VIS and other spectroscopic techniques
  • Observational and analytical skills as well as problem-solving skills.
  • Trouble-shooting skills of advanced analytical instrumentation, incl. high-resolution mass spectrometers, HPLC and other related equipment.
  • Ability to plan and execute complex scientific projects. Strong analytical and trouble shooting skills.
  • Ability to handle more than one project at a time, multitasking, effective communicator and collaborative with different teams.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy weighing up to 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with the handling and analysis of radioactive samples is a plus.
  • Familiarity with advanced high-resolution mass spectrometry instruments and methods; familiarity and extensive hands-on experience with Thermo Orbitrap instruments and Chromeleon software is a plus.
  • Excellent IT skills including specialized drug research software is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and conducting analytical methods for large molecules and conjugates, primarily focused on mass spectrometry.
  • Develops and runs proteins characterization assays such as HPLC based assays (MS and UV), Capillary electrophoresis (CE-SDS), affinity measurement assays.
  • Operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of state-of-the-art mass spectrometers, HPLCs and other analytical equipment.
  • Supports the R&D Discovery and preclinical groups with hands-on support, running testing, transferring (in/out) methods.
  • As part of the CMC team, provide technical oversight in support of the process development team.
  • Review and transfer of analytical methods as needed for Abdera’s CMC team, with possible development of assays to be used in process development and manufacturing.
  • Works as a key member of the CMC team to keep an organized and safe laboratory space.
  • Keeps excellent records & notes with thorough filing of method-SOPs and reports.
