About The Position

Deep Apple Therapeutics is a Bay Area biotechnology company with a focus on combining capabilities in molecular docking and structural biology to create a nucleus for accelerated drug discovery through advanced computer aided drug design technologies. Deep Apple Therapeutics is applying a state-of-the-art technology research platform based on advanced computational modeling and large-scale compound docking (LSD), cryo-EM based structural biology, and deep learning to drug discovery. We are seeking a highly motivated and Scientist/Senior Scientist, experienced in Biochemistry/Structural Biology specializing in Cryo-Electron Microscopy (Cryo-EM) of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) or other membrane proteins to join a dynamic and well-funded research organization. Deep Apple Therapeutics offers a highly competitive compensation, equity, and benefits package. The successful candidate will assist structural biology efforts to elucidate high-resolution structures of GPCR complexes, contributing to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics. This role requires deep expertise in protein biochemistry, structural biology, and Cryo-EM.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Biophysics, or a related field.
  • Preferred post-doctoral or industry experience in structural biology with a focus on membrane proteins and Cryo-EM.
  • Proven track record of high-resolution structure determination using Cryo-EM.
  • Expertise in protein expression, purification, and biochemical characterization.
  • Proficiency with Cryo-EM software pipelines (e.g., CryoSPARC, Relion & Coot).
  • Strong publication record demonstrating expertise in Cryo-EM and structural biology.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with membrane proteins or multi-protein complexes especially GPCRs.
  • Familiarity with integrative structural biology and biophysics approaches.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
  • Understanding of drug discovery and development processes.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute Cryo-EM experiments for structure determination of challenging biomolecular complexes.
  • Oversee sample preparation, data collection, image processing, and model building.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve Cryo-EM workflows and structural outputs.
  • Lead efforts in protein engineering, purification, and characterization to ensure high-quality samples for structural studies.
  • Optimize protein stability and homogeneity for Cryo-EM applications.
  • Work closely with computational chemists, medicinal chemists, and biologists to integrate structural data into drug design.
  • Analyze Cryo-EM and structural data to derive meaningful insights.
  • Present findings to internal stakeholders and external collaborators.
  • Author high-impact publications and contribute to intellectual property filings.
