The Scientist/Researcher IV is a senior-level position responsible for leading complex research projects and initiatives. This role involves designing, implementing, and testing wastewater treatability strategies, performing analytical tests to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatability, performing in-depth data analysis, and developing solutions to improve research outcomes. The Scientist/Researcher IV works closely with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve research issues, implement corrective and preventive actions, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Additionally, this role involves mentoring and training junior staff and providing technical expertise to support continuous improvement efforts.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental science, or a related field with at least 6-8 years of industrial experience; a master’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental science, or a related field with at least 6 years of industrial experience; or a doctorate degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental science, or a related field with at least 4 years of industrial experience. Please note that all experience levels should be post-academia.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data.
  • Proficiency in research tools and software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement research strategies and plans.
  • Experience in conducting experimental design and statistical analysis.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, implements, and tests new technologies for treating unique and traditional wastewater streams at bench- and pilot-scales, including the capture of intellectual property; implements remote accessibility of new technologies
  • Supports or leads treatability project proposal and scope development
  • May be a primary point of contact for Xylem project team and customers. Responsible for direct communication: e-mails, compiling technical data, setting up team meetings, etc.
  • Provides technical guidance to Scientist/Researcher I-III: answers project questions, provides feedback on proposals/scope of work, reviews reports, makes work assignments
  • Demonstrates leadership attributes
  • Manages project documentation including folder organization, uploading data, and drafting final report.
  • Coordinates sample/waste disposal and/or return with Xylem project team and customers.
  • Models 5S and lean principles
  • Fosters a culture of safety
