About The Position

As a Scientist, In Vitro Pharmacology within the Institute of Medicine (IOM) at Altos Labs, you will join a dynamic environment where leading research labs collaborate directly with industry scientists. This is a hands-on laboratory position focused on the development and execution of cell-based and biochemical assays, and complex in vitro models, contributing to our drug discovery campaigns across a diverse portfolio of early exploratory and drug-discovery stage projects. Your expertise will be instrumental in driving our mission and making a significant impact in aging/rejuvenation biology and drug discovery.

Requirements

  • PhD in Pharmacology, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of industry experience in a drug discovery and development setting.
  • Strong demonstrated experience conceptualizing and performing cellular, biochemical, and complex in vitro models with a background in relevant laboratory techniques and methods.
  • Ability to independently design experiments and generate robust, reproducible, and generalizable results
  • Proven track record of elucidating complex biological mechanisms.
  • Record of high productivity and ability to complete work in a timely manner.
  • Proficient in documenting experimental design, analysis and interpretation of data in an electronic lab notebook.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on cellular and complex in vitro models of diverse age-related conditions is desirable
  • Expertise in brightfield and confocal microscopy techniques and experience with high-content screening instruments and image analysis.
  • Cell engineering for the development of cellular models and reporter assays.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and validating automated workflows for complex assays, ensuring high reproducibility and robustness. This includes proficiency in laboratory automation platforms (e.g., liquid handlers) and expertise in writing scripts (e.g., Python, R) to automate data acquisition, processing, normalization, and visualization.
  • Experience working across diverse therapeutic modalities, including small molecules, biotherapeutics, nucleic acid therapeutics, and gene therapy is highly desirable.
  • Strong experience in the field of aging/rejuvenation biology.

Responsibilities

  • Design, optimize, execute, and troubleshoot a range of assays, including cellular, biochemical, and complex in vitro models, to advance the drug discovery pipeline.
  • Validate drug targets and define mechanisms of action (MoA) through robust in vitro pharmacology strategies, and support a diverse portfolio of early exploratory and drug-discovery stage projects.
  • Analyze, interpret, and present experimental data to drive project strategy and key decision-making.
  • Contemporaneously document all experimental methods, raw data, and results in an electronic laboratory notebook, ensuring reproducibility and data integrity.
  • Partner with Institute of Science (IOS) labs and internal cross-functional groups to discover and validate novel drug targets.
  • Collaborate with Technical Operations (Process Development and Analytical Development) to optimize processes and assays, ensuring smooth alignment with downstream operations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant scientific and technological advancements.
