About The Position

Bristol Myers Squibb is seeking a highly motivated immunologist with a strong background in T cell immunology to join the Cell Therapy Thematic Research Center. This role is crucial for driving the optimization of next-generation T cell therapeutics. The ideal candidate will possess an in-depth conceptual understanding of tumor-associated T cell biology, including T cell activation, signaling, differentiation, and immune-regulation pathways. Responsibilities include identifying relevant assays and developing novel approaches and technologies to assess and optimize T cell functionality. This position is suited for an innovative scientist who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, with a focus on advancing T cell therapeutic development projects. The Cell Therapy TRC is a key research platform at BMS, dedicated to developing innovative cellular therapies to treat hematologic malignancies, solid cancers, and autoimmune diseases by harnessing the power of the immune system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years of academic and / or industry experience
  • Or Master’s Degree with 3+ years of academic and / or industry experience
  • Or Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences (no experience necessary)
  • Highly motivated immunologist with a strong background in T cell immunology
  • In-depth conceptual understanding of tumor-associated T cell biology, including T cell activation, signaling, differentiation, and immune-regulation pathways
  • Ability to identify relevant assays and experience in developing novel approaches and technologies for assessing and optimizing functionality of T cells

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive experience with in vitro technologies typically employed to engineer T cells, followed by functionality assessment including but not limited to viral transduction, targeted gene editing, Incucyte-based readouts, and PCR
  • Expertise in multi-parameter flow cytometry (12-plus colors) and immune cell functional assays (e.g., proliferation, cytokine production, cytotoxicity, imaging)
  • Experience with analysis of next generation sequencing/large gene expression datasets using a programming language is highly desired
  • Skilled at critical and probabilistic thinking, able to apply prior experience and theoretical knowledge to identify and solve complex scientific problems
  • Self-motivated and focused with project management-oriented thinking; able to work on multiple projects in a matrix environment
  • Ability to work productively as both team member and as individual contributor
  • Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to collaborate within cross-functional teams; skilled at listening to and coordinating with colleagues in a matrixed environment
  • Ability to conceptualize and communicate the broader impact of personal activities to other projects and teammates
  • Strong organizational skills to ensure thorough and timely documentation of experiments and preparation of data for compiling reports

Responsibilities

  • Application of extensive knowledge of T cell biology including activation pathways, signaling pathways and antigen-specific differentiation, to characterize T cells in vitro and enable science-driven decision making
  • Plan and implement critical studies required to drive hypothesis-driven research
  • Strong ability to interpret and synthesize information from complex datasets, both published and internal within BMS
  • Identification of new methods and research tools for continuous development of drug candidate screening workflow in vitro
  • Provide scientific and technical insights on cross-functional assignments
  • Provide recommendations on department-level strategic decisions
  • Represent the company in external settings and work with internal and external collaborators
  • Act as a functional advisor to team members, especially to more junior colleagues
