The Science Educator will play a central role in advancing the mission of the STEM Learning Institute by leading professional learning for teachers, providing ongoing coaching, and contributing to the development of innovative high school science instructional materials. The educator will work directly with high school teachers and program partners to ensure that STEM Learning Institute programs are practical, effective, and rooted in research-based instructional strategies. This position is ideal for an experienced secondary science educator—particularly with a background in chemistry—who has a strong track record of facilitating teacher professional learning, designing curriculum, and supporting teacher growth through coaching and mentoring.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, science education, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience teaching high school science.
  • Demonstrated success leading teacher professional learning or providing instructional coaching.
  • Strong knowledge of inquiry-based and student-centered instructional strategies.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to work independently in a fully remote environment, effectively managing time, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines while staying responsive and communicative.
  • Demonstrates commitment to SSPI’s Mission and Values in their daily work and interactions.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in science education, curriculum & instruction, or related discipline.
  • Expertise in chemistry teaching and curriculum.
  • Experience developing instructional materials for high school STEM courses.
  • Working knowledge of contemporary understanding of science education including the Framework for K12 Science Education and Next Generation Science Standards
  • Familiarity with program evaluation or data-informed instructional improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver high-quality professional learning experiences for high school science teachers, with emphasis on inquiry-based and authentic research practices.
  • Provide ongoing instructional coaching, feedback, and support for teachers participating in STEM Learning Institute programs.
  • Facilitate teacher check-ins to foster a professional community, share best practices, and address challenges.
  • Collaborate with STEM Learning Institute team and partners to develop high school science instructional materials that align with standards and promote authentic STEM learning.
  • Contribute expertise in science pedagogy, particularly chemistry, to ensure instructional materials are rigorous, engaging, and accessible.
  • Pilot and refine instructional materials through field testing and feedback from teachers and students.
  • Support the Director and other team members in program implementation and logistics.
  • Document outcomes and provide input to the Research & Evaluation team for continuous improvement.
  • Represent the STEM Learning Institute at conferences, workshops, and partner meetings as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
