About The Position

Williams College is pleased to announce an opening for a full-time Science Center and Safety Manager. This position provides essential administration to support the vibrant research and teaching community across the sciences. This work includes managing Science Center staff (science shop, microscopy facility, animal care, administrative office), oversight of the six Science Center buildings, coordinating maintenance of research equipment, and responsible fiscal management. The position also provides crucial lab safety support and regulatory compliance management, including as the radiation and the laser safety officer. The manager reports to and works closely with the faculty Science Center Director and coordinates frequently with other campus partners such as Facilities and Campus Safety Services. Requirements: Candidates should have a Master’s degree in a scientific discipline and at least 5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional qualifications include: Knowledge of and experience with laboratory safety, regulations and best practices; additional training will be provided as needed for chemical, radiation and laser safety. Knowledge of building systems and advanced scientific instrumentation. Experience working in a collaborative team with managerial experience preferred. Experience with responsible financial management. This position requires independent work and strong managerial skills. The successful candidate will be able to manage multiple priorities and to adapt to address unexpected situations and changing needs in order to successfully support the sciences. The ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a broad range of constituents is essential, including staff within and outside the unit, faculty members, students, and outside vendors. The position requires the mobility to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time and occasional heavy lifting up to 50 lbs. The Science Center & Safety Manager is expected to be on call to respond to emergency notifications and situations after hours as needed. This is a fully in-person position, and remote work arrangements will not be available at this time. A cover letter is required for consideration.
