About The Position

Provide an array of psychological services to students, parents, and school staff under the supervision of a qualified licensed professional. Evaluate the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students referred for special education services or receiving special education services. Provide consultation and counseling for students with disabilities. Serve as a member of the multi-disciplinary team for the campus(es) to which they are assigned. Act as a source to ensure district compliance with all legal issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and near completion of a master’s or specialist degree in school psychology from an accredited university
  • Current enrollment in a regionally accredited institution of higher learning and a formal course of supervised study that allows for participation in a year long, 1200+ hour internship experience
  • Completion of coursework and practicum experience that allows for the provision of psychological services in the school setting under the supervision of a licensed professional
  • Working knowledge and coursework in the assessment of emotional/behavioral conditions for educational purposes
  • Working knowledge and coursework in the areas of intervention, behavior management and consultation strategies
  • Working knowledge of federal law and state guidelines for special education
  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Practicum experience in the completion of Full and Individual Evaluations in the areas of Autism, Emotional Disturbance, and Other Health Impairment for ADHD
  • Practicum experience in behavioral intervention and consultation
  • Practicum experience in the provision of counseling services
  • Practicum experience with the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) process

Responsibilities

  • Select and administer assessments and observations to evaluate the intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of referred students and to determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and state regulations.
  • Score and interpret test data.
  • Write Full and Individual Evaluation reports and submit to supervisor within a reasonable timeframe prior to due date.
  • Participate in the Admissions, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with appropriate placement and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures.
  • Provide individual or group counseling to students eligible for counseling as a related service.
  • Create progress reports related to students’ counseling goals each grading period.
  • Consult with teachers and relevant staff concerning the educational needs of students and interpretation of assessment data.
  • Develop behavior intervention plans and consult with school staff regarding implementation of behavior intervention plans to manage behaviorally disruptive students.
  • Serve as consultant on mental health topics for instructors in the school health program.
  • Provide staff development training in assigned schools to assist school personnel with identification and understanding of students with emotional, social, and behavioral disturbances.
  • Meet with parents to discuss pertinent background information and test results.
  • Consult with psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, and community agencies concerning intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of students as needed.
  • Participate in individual and group supervision.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents, including case records, test results, statistical data, and test inventories.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in the areas of psychological services, assessment, placement, and planning for special education services.
  • Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment.
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Present in a manner that elicits confidence from other professionals.
