Requirements

  • Experience in the role preferred
  • Master’s degree from an accredited school or university in educational or clinical psychology including; 42 semester hours of graduate coursework and 500 hours of successful field experience in a school setting under the supervision of a certified school psychologist required
  • Must be eligible to acquire or must possess DC certification as a psychologist
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills: written, verbal, listening
  • Ability to articulate test results to parents who are not familiar with psychological tests required
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Well organized
  • Ability manage multiple tasks in a fast paced and high needs environment
  • Commitment to servicing students from a minority and/ or lower socioeconomic background required

Responsibilities

  • Conducts evaluations and re-evaluations for students as requested or warranted
  • Acts as an interdisciplinary team member in the special education eligibility process
  • Administering psychological assessments (IQ, personality, and achievement)as needed
  • Articulates test results to parents and MDT members in clear, understandable language attending to cultural sensitivity
  • Delivers group and individual therapy sessions as indicated on student IEPs
  • Maintains progress notes as required by Friendship Public Charter School regulations
  • Makes recommendations for purchasing assessment materials to ensure that the psychologist is adequately equipped with state-of-the-art resources
  • Keeps abreast of advances in diagnostic materials
  • Maintains compliant IEPS, including contact logs and reports progress accordingly to parents and team members
  • Acts as an interdisciplinary team member in the special education eligibility process, administering IQ, personality, and achievement tests
  • Articulates test results to parents who are not familiar with psychological tests
  • Includes working with a wide range of student emotional and academic factors
  • Researches the effectiveness of academic programs and behavior management procedures, and acquires new information about learning and behavior
  • Assesses and evaluates the wide variety of behavior, skills, emotions and goals in the schools they serve
  • Intervenes directly with counseling services for students and families
  • Consults with teachers, parents, and school personnel about learning, social and behavior problems
  • Teaches lessons on parenting skills, learning strategies, substance abuse, and other topics pertinent to healthy schools
