Evaluates students who have been referred by the teacher to determine why either achievement or behavior is not within acceptable limits. Recommends procedures and programs to bring either the achievement or behavior of referred students within acceptable limits. Cooperates with the school Principal in arranging and conducting parent conferences to discuss test results, making recommendations and interpreting the school program in terms of the desired outcomes for the student. Schedules and plans meetings with teachers at various grade levels to discuss behavioral characteristics and realistic expectations of children at the respective chronological and mental ages. Cooperates with teachers in programming for the exceptional student within the regular classroom. Assists in the development of classroom management techniques and teaching procedures appropriate and effective in the instruction of students. Cooperates with tutors and recommends techniques and materials to them for use with exceptional students who are instructed in the regular classroom. Cooperates with staff in initiating pilot programs in accord with current educational research. Serves as a consultant to Guidance Counselors. Cooperates in the development and supervision of work-experience programs for high school slow learning students and coordinates the program of referrals to the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation. Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Pupil Personnel Services.
