Spotsylvania County Public Schools are actively seeking School Psychologists to provide psychological services to promote the mental health and well-being of students. The School Psychologist collaborates with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure a supportive learning environment for all students.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in School Psychology from an accredited college or university
  • Current (valid, not expired) licensure to practice School Psychology issued by the Virginia Department of Education

Nice To Haves

  • Educational Specialist (Ed.S) Degree in School Psychology from an accredited college or university
  • Two (2) years of successful, full-time experience as a School Psychologist, ideally within a public education institution

Responsibilities

  • Provides school personnel with general knowledge regarding psychological services.
  • Assists in establishing and effecting procedural requirements for the assessment, eligibility and placement of disabled students.
  • Assists in preparation and revision of special education forms.
  • Participates in legal appeals and hearings regarding students who have been evaluated psychologically or are in special education programs.
  • Participates in the special education eligibility conferences regarding students who are in residential settings.
  • Orders supplies and equipment needed for psychological services.
  • Administers individual psycho-educational techniques for the assessment of intelligence, aptitude, achievement, and behavioral, social, and emotional functioning.
  • Evaluates and identifies students who have learning, social and/or emotional adjustment problems.
  • Consults with principals, teachers, parents and other appropriate individuals to help increase the understanding of students and to help to provide an atmosphere conducive to psychological growth.
  • Conducts short-term individual and/or group counseling whenever possible.
  • Interprets test results to parents and teachers.
  • Consults on parent-child/teacher-student management behavior modification.
  • Conducts in-service workshops or consultative conferences for school personnel on request or as needed.
  • Assists school screening committees and resource teachers in determining a need for formal evaluation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
