Shrub Oak International School (www.shruboak.org) is a therapeutic day and residential school for autistic children, adolescents, and young adults with complex co-occurring conditions. We offer a variety of programs to meet the needs of students across the spectrum, and our curriculum is based on the most advanced and successful evidence-based clinical and academic approaches in ASD education. The Psychologist works collaboratively with education, clinical, and residential staff, as well as parents and students, to develop plans and strategies to improve students’ academic performance, mental health, and social development in accordance with ITEPs (Individualized Transdisciplinary Education Plan). Having access to confidential information, discretion, and independent judgment is required. Conducts comprehensive assessments and reassessments of a student's psychological, behavioral, and emotional needs Designs and develops treatment plans and interventions that meet the individualized needs of students Provides expertise in behavioral science and mental health-related services through advisement and consultation by making evidence-based recommendations Supervises (or is eligible to supervise) other mental health professionals and/or interns, develops clinically oriented groups and program supports, and creates, organizes, and leads relevant staff training. Utilizes a variety of treatment approaches that are safe, creative, and individualized to a particular student's needs Provides therapy/counseling to individuals and groups using various evidence-based modalities, monitoring student progress Provides supervision of staff and/or interns as needed and required Proactively maintains open lines of communication with care providers, students, and family members to effectively address student progress, development, and emergencies, as needed. Supports the crisis team, which proactively seeks to enhance our approaches/policies to minimize episodes of crisis and escalation, wherever possible, and then manage crisis situations with integrity and safety for all involved Proactively identifies appropriate training for staff, and programming for students (groups or individually), and once approved, designs and coordinates training, enabling us to grow and scale Maintains appropriate records and reports as required Participates in Clinical activities to advance field knowledge and remains at the forefront of professional development and advancements Participates, as needed, in community and professional education regarding clinical matters, life skills independence, and related areas
