About The Position

Under the supervision of the Special Education Supervisor and direction of a certificated school psychologist, assists students, parents and school personnel through application of professional studies in the following areas: student assessment, learning consultant, counseling, program development, consultant in child growth and personality development and research.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a Master’s program for School Psychology.
  • Completion of necessary coursework in preparation for internship and current enrollment.
  • Preliminary knowledge of and ability to use psychological and behavioral assessment tools to evaluate students.
  • Preliminary knowledge of and ability to use instructional skills and principles of learning.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and volunteers in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to provide support for building activities and to adjust to new situations and guidance concepts.
  • Ability to facilitate the educational development of students.
  • Current enrollment in an accredited graduate degree program in School Psychology.
  • Fingerprinting and background clearance through OSPI.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a practicum in school psychology or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide counseling and consultation services for students individually, and in both large and small groups.
  • Measure the intellectual, social and emotional development of students, and interprets the results of psychological studies.
  • Identifies educational, behavioral disabilities, and collaborates in the planning of re-education and therapeutic programs.
  • Identifies exceptional students and collaborates in the planning of appropriate educational placement and programs.
  • Develops ways to facilitate the learning and adjustment of students.
  • Administers intellectual assessments, behavioral or adaptive assessments, gathers medical information and coordinates all necessary reports.
  • Assists teachers and administrators in understanding child behavior and intellectual, and personality differences as they apply to the individual student and the class.
  • Serves in a consultative capacity in curriculum planning.
  • Consults with individual students and/or families, thereby positive academic: behavioral change.
  • Encourages and initiates research, and helps utilize research findings for the solution of school problems and the student achievement.
  • Participates in meetings of multidisciplinary teams, and coordinates multidisciplinary team paperwork.
  • Attends Individual Educational Program (IEP) meetings, as necessary.
  • Participates in informal student staffing teams at schools.
  • Provides counseling as a related service as indicated in IEPs.
  • Ensures complete documentation of the psychologist report and the summary assessments for students.
  • Establishes beneficial relationships with students and staff based upon respect and rapport.
  • Interacts positively with students, parents, co-workers, staff, volunteers and teacher interns.
  • Communicates current special education rules, regulations, and Clover Park School District policy and procedures.
