About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Special Instructional Services for FCPS, this position will be part of the team responsible for scheduling and assessing preschool-age children and children who attend private schools or are homeschooled who have been referred for evaluations to determine whether or not they require special education services. This person must have an understanding of the special education process, knowledge and experience with developmental disabilities, and an ability to collaborate with the child find team

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in School Psychology
  • Eligibility for endorsement as a school psychologist through the VA Department of Education (VDOE)
  • Thorough knowledge and experience functioning as part of a multidisciplinary team, skilled at conducting individual and group sessions with students, interpreting evaluative information to staff and parents, and skilled at report writing to include prescriptive educational recommendations.
  • A desire to participate in the Transdisciplinary Play-Based Assessment system for preschool-age children.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the Special Services Referral Team (SSRT) meeting process and eligibility meeting process for students suspected of having a disability under the IDEA.
  • Act as a participant in the comprehensive evaluation process for transdisciplinary play-based assessments for preschool-aged children; conduct traditional individual psychological evaluations, observations, and interviews as needed for school-aged children attending a private school in the FCPS zone or Frederick County residents being homeschooled who are suspected of having a disability.
  • Analyze and interpret assessment data using statistical techniques, knowledge of instruments, and understanding of disabling conditions.
  • Manage the organization and processing of assigned cases for special education eligibility, including monitoring, reviewing, and liaison tasks.
  • Complete reports in a timely manner per regulatory guidelines
  • Maintain a case management log and provide other information as required for management purposes.
  • Present in-service and educational programs to child-find staff, parents, community agencies, and students that will expand psychological awareness of difficulties related to children and adolescents.
  • Provide teachers and parents with information about appropriate developmental tasks and expectancies in cognitive, social, communication, physical, and self-help areas.
  • Make appropriate student referrals to specialist and/or community agencies.
  • Perform other duties as required.
