HERITAGE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL SCHOOL NURSE POSITION OBJECTIVE: To address the immediate health care needs of all HCS students and staff by delivering basic nursing care, administering medications, and maintaining accurate medical records. Additionally, assist in conducting state-required screenings and tests, and support the training of faculty and staff as needed. EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of Indiana and current CPR certification are required. Excellent interpersonal skills Ability to prioritize and triage based on acuity Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment Ability to discern, understand and communicate school specific health regulations and standards Proficient with health information systems and electronic medical records (EMR’s) Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information with respect to HIPPA guidelines Comfortable providing basic nursing skills with thorough charting skills Ability to provide nursing care for students with chronic health conditions including diabetes and asthma Proficient in providing nursing care for students across a broad age range, from preschool to teens MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct thorough health assessments to evaluate the overall health status of students Report to Marion County Health Department any communicable diseases Analyze and interpret the health and development needs of each student and develop an individualized health care plan if necessary Implement first aid and care for the sick or injured according to physician-approved medical treatment protocols Maintain a confidential health record for each student and provide accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulations Monitor the immunization status of all students Maintain communication with administration, school staff, parents, and the community to enhance health services to students Provide health education to students, parents, teaching faculty and staff on pertinent health issues, including, but not limited to blood-borne pathogens, epi-pen protocol, CPR, and first aid Take reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, school board and state board of health policy Continue to grow professionally through creation of and participation in an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning The above description covers the most significant duties performed, but does not restrict the administration’s right to assign or reassign other reasonable duties, responsibilities, or expectations to this job at any time, with or without advance notice. Must be able to communicate with others. Specific vision abilities required in this position include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to discern low volume sounds. Must be able to assist children for health and safety reasons. Must be able to lift students with assistance in the event of an emergency. Must be able to squat, bend, kneel, reach, or crawl. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office environment with moderate to loud noise level. Uses computer, phone and audio/radio equipment. Position works alone and with others. Possible exposure to weather if required to cross campus. WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time or Part-time. The schedule follows the academic calendar. Part-time schedule (less than 30 hours per week) will be as determined by the Health Services Manager.
