About The Position

The School Nurse supports the health, wellness, and safety of students, faculty, and staff while upholding the mission and values of the school. This position provides professional nursing care, promotes health education, responds to medical emergencies, and partners with families and school personnel to foster a safe and nurturing Christ-centered learning environment. The School Nurse is expected to model Christian character, compassion, integrity, and servant leadership in all interactions. This is a part time position, Monday to Friday, with a consistent 2, 3,or 4 days per week schedule. Hours are 8:00am – 3:30pm. All offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and drug screening.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Knowledge of child development, school health policies, and emergency response procedures.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to Christian education and agreement with the school’s statement of faith.
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies throughout the campus.
  • Ability to lift and assist students when necessary.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use office and medical equipment for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Previous pediatric, school nursing, or community health experience preferred.
  • CPR Trainer training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care and first aid to students and staff for illness, injury, and medical emergencies.
  • Assess and manage student health concerns and determine when further medical evaluation is needed.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, school policies, and state regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, including immunization and medical history documentation.
  • Monitor and manage chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, allergies, and seizure disorders.
  • Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans and emergency action plans.
  • Coordinate student screening such as scoliosis, vision, hearing, etc.
  • Respond promptly to medical emergencies and coordinate emergency care when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with state and local health regulations, including immunization requirements and communicable disease reporting.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of school health and safety policies.
  • Monitor infection prevention procedures and promote a healthy school environment.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning and crisis response.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns, injuries, illnesses, and treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, and other staff to support student well-being.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school, families, healthcare providers, and community resources.
  • Provide guidance to staff regarding student health needs and classroom accommodations.
  • Promote wellness through health education initiatives for students and staff.
  • Provide age-appropriate instruction and resources on health, hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.
  • Encourage healthy lifestyle habits consistent with the school’s mission of caring for the whole child—body, mind, and spirit.
  • Coordinate and provide staff CPR training bi-annually.
  • Support and uphold the Christian mission, vision, and statement of faith of the school.
  • Demonstrate Christ-like compassion, respect, and care in serving students, families, and staff.
  • Participate in school devotional activities, prayer, and faith-based events as appropriate.
  • Integrate biblical principles of care, service, and stewardship into daily practice.
