Browns River Middle School is seeking a full-time School Nurse to join their team. This position will start at the beginning on the 2026-27 school year. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provision of Health Services Provides health services according to the Vermont Department of Health Standards of Practice: School Health Services Manual. Provides health assessments for individual students and referrals for health management or treatment as needed. Provides and oversees direct health services for students.. Provides health counseling to assist students, families, and staff in making informed decisions on choices related to the health of the student. Develops and manages the implementation of student healthcare plans and health management protocols for all students with health needs. Recommends modifications to the school program as needed. Serves as liaison for healthcare providers, family, and staff on the health needs of students. Identifies and reports child abuse and neglect as required by law. Serves as a member of the school Child Protection Team. As a member of this team, works with students in crisis and on cases of abuse/neglect per State Law and school district policy. Collaborates with other school personnel to identify and refer students for psychosocial and substance abuse issues and follows up and/or evaluates interventions. Keeps current on trends, developments, and research in the area of school nursing, communicable disease, health education, and wellness. Maintains current health plans and substitute plans. Preventative Health Maintains individual health records for all students on chronic illness, immunization, medication use, screenings, daily health room visits, and other data as determined by the Vermont Department of Health or district policies. Develops procedures and protocols for preventing and managing injuries and acute and chronic illness. Provides communicable disease control procedures and advises administration and/or parents regarding school exclusion and readmittances, health surveillance and follow-up of contagious diseases. Reports illnesses, when required, to the Vermont Health Department. Provides students, staff and community with information on current health initiatives, practices and problems by locating and sharing resources. Collaboration with Other School and Community Personnel Participates as the health professional member on educational initiatives, including the child education evaluation teams that develop Individual Education Plans (IEP’s), 504 Plans, educational support team (EST), and other specialized plans for students. Acts as the (504) case manager for students with health generated 504 plans. Coordinates with other school and personnel to ensure a safe and health promoting school environment for students and staff. Serves as a resource to other teachers and administrators in health education. Coordinates school health activities and serves as a liaison on health issues among home, school and community. Develops protocols and trains school personnel delegated to carry out health service activities per Vermont Standards of Practice: School Health Services. Collaborates in the development of school policies concerning health issues and develops procedures concerning health issues in accordance with school policies. Performs all other duties as assigned
