About The Position

The Northbridge Public School District is seeking a school nurse for Northbridge High School (Grade 8 through Post Grad). The School Nurse is tasked with maximizing the educational experience for every student by minimizing illness-related absences and promoting an environment of health and wellness. In conjunction with the Building Principal, the School Nurse shall develop annual job goals that will become part of the criteria used to evaluate the Nurse.

Requirements

Valid MA license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Massachusetts, required
Valid certifications in CPR, First Aid and AED
Knowledge of FERPA and HIPAA regulations
Proactively approach others with a view to engage in dialogue and build strong working relationships
Demonstrate good judgment, approachable and professional, solid problem solving skills, self-motivated, well organized

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college/university, preferred
Possession of MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) School Nurse license, all levels, preferred
Experience as a registered nurse working with school-aged children, preferred
Experience monitoring juvenile diabetics
Experience working with pediatric tracheostomies

Responsibilities

Provide medically prescribed interventions including medication administration (based on state regulations) and nursing procedures and provides nursing care to the chronically ill children
Provide consultation on school health issues, both clinical and management, to parents, students, school administrators, school nurses, school physicians, local boards of health, health educators, teachers, counselors, municipal agents, health care providers, etc.
Act as liaison between school, home, and community agencies in improving the health of school children
Develop Individualized Health Care Plans for students with specialized health care needs
Participate in 504 and IEP plan development
Maintain comprehensive school health records, including maintaining an electronic log of the day's medical treatments
Assist in the prevention and control of illness including communicable disease and other infections
Participate, as necessary, in the modification of the school program to meet the special health needs of children
Communicate, collaborate, and consult with parents/guardians and staff, regarding the health needs/concerns of students
Communicate and consult with students' physicians
Perform required health screenings and document results
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
Maintain appropriate nursing and DESE licensures and certifications
Participate in staff meetings, professional development and other after school meetings as required
Perform other professional duties which the Building Principal or Director of Pupil Personnel Services may require
