About The Position

Middleborough Public Schools is seeking a full time, school year School Nurse to work in the Mary K. Goode Elementary School SUMMARY: The school nurse will provide a broad range of health services including acute, episodic and emergency care. School nurses manage the care of students with special health care needs at school. The school nurse is responsible for developing, implementing and managing a school health program for a school population as defined by the school district.

Responsibilities

To promote academic success and provide optimal nursing care to the entire school community.
Performs school nursing services consistent with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health guidelines in addition to the local school district policy.
Provides assessment and medical care for students and staff in the case of injury or illness as needed.
Maintains comprehensive school health records and identifies significant health needs. Monitors for appropriate immunization and physical examination requirements in accordance with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Maintains appropriate documentation including electronic school health records, daily logs, medication administration, accident/incident report, and special needs encounters.
Organizes and implements mandated school screenings according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health regulations. Initiates referrals to parents when required, monitors for follow-up, and provides accommodations as prescribed by medical providers.
Develops and coordinates individual health care plans with health care providers and involved school personnel.
Participates as the health specialist to develop and implement medically related provisions within students' Individual Educational Plan or 504 Plan as needed.
Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, administrators, and physicians.
Integrates health education in daily practice.
Identifies the needs of students and staff and teaches health promotion and disease prevention as needed. Provides health education and counseling on an individual basis as needed to students, staff, and parents.
Demonstrates and applies current nursing knowledge in school practice.
Participates in ongoing professional development to maintain Massachusetts Registered Nurse License. Maintains certification for school nurse in accordance with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Provide nursing coverage on field trips as needed during the school day, based on safety of students.
Provide consultation in the formation of health policies, goals and objectives for the school district
Provide consultation to the District Wellness Committee.
Any and all other duties as directed by the Superintendent.
