About The Position

The successful candidate is a Registered Nurse who will assist every student with access to mental and physical health services. Providing appropriate standards of care for injuries, illness and medication management when needed or coordinating with outside providers when necessary. They work with teachers, staff, parents or guardians on behalf of the students in order to break down barriers to healthcare access while maintaining confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing which will meet National Standards for School Nurse
  • Registered Nurse's license through the Indiana State Board of Nursing/IPLA
  • Human Trafficking Training
  • Child Abuse and Neglect Training
  • Suicide prevention training certificate.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid CPR and AED Certification from an IDOE approved provider.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness.
  • Instructs classes in medically related subjects such as first aid and universal precautions.
  • Assesses, identifies, and monitors the physical, emotional, and social needs of students; makes referrals as needed.
  • Completes and maintains cumulative, confidential health records for all students.
  • Communicates and cooperates with parents, school personnel, physicians/clinics, the community and other agencies on school medical matters.
  • Implements immunization requirements and all screening programs mandated by Indiana law.
  • Advises and assists teachers on modification of the educational program to meet health needs of individual students.
  • Authorizes exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases or immunizations.
  • Serves as a resource person in matters pertaining to health curriculum and implements health programs approved by the Board of School Trustees.
  • Participates and coordinates educational training programs.
  • Provides medical attention and/or administers authorized medication for students, as necessary.
  • Completes reports related to the health services program, as required.
  • Maintains confidential records.
  • Demonstrates effective organizational, management and follow-through skills.
  • Participates in emergency/crisis situations and development of the school safety plan as requested by building principal(s).
  • Coordinates and supervises the training of volunteers and/or health room assistants in screening techniques, first aid, and clerical responsibilities.
  • The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substances abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the corporation.
  • Is team oriented, personable and professional
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Works 188 Days per School Year
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by the superintendent or other administrative staff as designated by the superintendent.
