About The Position

Cedar Park Med is seeking a compassionate and skilled RN or LPN to provide one-on-one care for a student with complex medical and developmental needs. This position includes supporting the student at home pick-up, during bus transportation, and throughout the school day. Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday | 10:35 AM – 3:35 PM Compensation: Competitive; rate based on experience and licensure (RN vs. LPN).

Requirements

  • Current NYS license as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • Experience with pediatric or student populations preferred.
  • Proficiency in: G-tube feeding, aspiration precautions, and monitoring for intolerance Managing complex seizure activity, including versive seizures Supporting individuals with cerebral palsy (mixed presentation: ataxic, dyskinetic, and spastic types) Recognizing and addressing symptoms related to severe GERD, dysphagia, and eosinophilic esophagitis Implementing precautions for poor head control and airway vulnerability Monitoring for aspiration risks related to both oral intake and G-tube feeds Providing safe mobility assistance, including support during wheelchair use complicated by spasticity
  • Ability to maintain a stable, safe environment for a student with frequent airway compromise
  • Strong communication and critical-thinking skills
  • Capacity to deliver calm, compassionate care in a structured educational or pediatric setting
  • Awareness of food allergies, including kiwi, lactose, and soy, and ability to follow strict avoidance protocols

Responsibilities

  • Meet the student at home prior to bus pick-up and accompany during transportation.
  • Administer and monitor G-tube feedings, addressing aspiration risks.
  • Observe and respond to aspiration during feedings and thin liquid intake.
  • Monitor and intervene as needed for seizure activity.
  • Provide safe care for conditions including cerebral palsy, reflux, dysphagia, and developmental delays.
  • Remain vigilant regarding airway management, as the student’s airway is frequently compromised.
  • Recognize and respond to food allergies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of care, feedings, and incidents.
  • Work collaboratively with family, transportation staff, and school personnel to ensure consistent and safe care.
