About The Position

The successful candidate will provide health services and assist in implementing health related policies/procedures within the school. Department: Student Affairs Supervisor: Dean of Students Required Minimum Qualifications Licensed as a registered nurse by the Alabama Board of Nursing. 2 years of experience. Preferred Qualifications: BSN, school nurse and/or pediatric nurse experience. Classification: Exempt, full-time, and salaried Terms of Employment 11-month position which includes training prior to the beginning of the new school year and summer program(s). Evening and weekend hours required. Essential Duties Uphold professional standards of the state Nurse Practice Act. Collect health information about the student’s past and present health history. Responsible for maintaining current immunization record upon student’s entering ASMS. Provide health appraisals/assessments of students. Provide health services including routine care, First Aid, and emergency care. Medication administration according to State Law. Provide relevant instruction, counseling, and guidance to students, parents, staff and others concerning health-related issues. Liaison between medical offices, hospitals, parents, students, etc., regarding student health issues. Serve as liaison with the Medical Review Officer. Drug testing. Reporting suspected child abuse. Assist in implementing policies/procedure for control of communicable disease within the school. Participates in team meetings and parental conferences related to student health issues. Schedule medical appointments. Order medical supplies. Available by phone after hours. Maintain confidentiality of student information. Ability to communicate effectively with the administration, faculty, staff, students and the general public. Provide medication administration, CPR, First Aid, and other relevant training to Residence Life and other staff and faculty members. Implement the mission, goals and policies of the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science. Various other duties as assigned by the President/Vice President/Dean/Director. Technology Exhibit computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, web-based programs, social media networks, and email as a primary mode of communication/documentation. The Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457 require criminal history background checks and establish suitability criteria for individuals working in positions that involve children, including public or residential school settings like ASMS (Alabama School of Math and Science).

Requirements
