About The Position

Major Responsibilities: Demonstrates Expertise in clinical practice: • Serves as clinical role model/resource for School Nurse Program/Board of Education staff, and community agencies. • Completes Nursing Assessments, provides care/treatment/education for student’s level of growth/development. • Assesses need/facilitates referrals to healthcare provider for further treatment. • Safely administers medication as prescribed. • Performs point of care testing/quality controls. • Documents legibly using concise terms, correct terminology/approved abbreviations in the medical record. • Maintains clinical environment/supplies/equipment conducive to safe healthcare in the school setting. • Complies with ACCREDITATION BODY standards. • Recognizes/responds appropriately to emergencies in school setting. • Utilizes Georgia Registry of Immunization Tracking program. (GRITS) Provides management/Leadership for school based clinics: • Evaluates nursing care provided by RN/LPNs, offers education/guidance. • Completes timely yearly performance evaluations for clinical nurses. • Coordinates/collates peer evaluation for clinical staff. • Maintains knowledge of legal implications/current issues related to school/pediatric nursing. • Responsible for development/revision of plans of care/structure standards and ensure that documents are used in clinical practice. • Responsible for maintenance of program equipment/supplies. • Accountable for remaining within budgetary limits. • Delegates tasks/assignments to clinical staff according to ability/scope of practice. • Develops/implements/evaluates Performance Improvement activities. • Ensures clinical staff remains in compliance with Time and Attendance standards. • Monitors and utilizes API T & A system appropriately. • Submits staff timesheets and monthly student data in timely manner. Facilitates learning in School Nurse Programs/school staff/ students/families and community: • Responsible for developing and coordinating orientation/staff development for clinical nurses in collaboration with DBE. • Provides/documents student (patient) education in manner which indicates barriers to learning, cultural sensitivity for student/caregivers comprehension. • Develops/participates in health educational programs to students/staff. Utilizes effective interpersonal/communication skills to facilitate optimal student care/activities: • Serves as clinical resource clinician/liaison for school staff/community. • Actively seeks/provides ongoing discussion/feedback related to student healthcare with Clinical and School staff. • Collaborates effectively with other HSCG departments, and community service organizations. • Demonstrates effective communication/problem solving skills to include active listening, tact, diplomacy, and assertiveness that conveys mutual respect/understanding. • Communicates effectively via email/ keeps current with electronic information specific to job/CGHS. • Consults with Pediatric Physician Liaison regarding clinical issues/situations. Demonstrates Self growth as a Professional Nurse: • Performs annual self-evaluation to include goals/objectives. • Participates in school/community based meetings/committees as appropriate to school health/pediatrics. • Participates in at least 75% of Department staff meetings. • Applies self reflection using supervisory/co-worker feedback in order to develop professionally. • Changes beeper status to appropriate coverage when taking PAL/EIB. • Attends/participates in continuing Education programs. • Ability to apply self reflection using Director, direct report and co-worker feedback in order to develop professionally. Responds to beeper pages in timely manner. (5-10 minutes)

Requirements

  • Current, valid Georgia Nursing license
  • CPR
  • Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a credentialed college or university required
  • Minimum of four years of clinical nursing experience with two years in pediatrics.
  • Must be able to use visual near and distance acuity.
  • Must have verbal ability to communicate in person and over the phone or radio.
  • Must be able to assist co-workers in transfers and transport supplies, patients/residents, or equipment using good body mechanics.
  • Must have functional range of motion of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities with a grip strength of 60-80 pounds, specific to the job class evaluation.
  • Must be able to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel and change from one position to the other rapidly.
  • Must be able to lift 25-60 lbs. and carry 25-50 pounds specific to job class evaluation.
  • Must be able to tolerate high noise, busy atmospheres and noxious odors.
  • Must be able to work in noisy environments and be self directed to complete jobs as ordered.
  • Must be able to remain calm under stressful situations.
  • Must be able to assess and respond to multiple situations simultaneously.
  • Must be able to assist co-workers in multiple overlapping tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be able to prioritize job tasks and organize work space to be efficient and conducive to completing work tasks as assigned in a timely manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters Degree in nursing preferred with focus in Child-health, pediatrics, school health or similar specialty area.
  • Experience working with economically disadvantaged population preferred.
