Requirements

  • Licensed Practical Nursing licensure
  • 6 months or more of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Possess a current and valid NYS driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Must maintain LPN Licensure
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and current school health information files on all students
  • Maintain a log of any daily nursing or medical consultations
  • Maintain each child's allergy status on the front cover of their file, notifying the corresponding Teacher
  • Physically examine and determine health status for children on a daily basis, seeking assistance from the RN as needed
  • Administer medications as prescribed by the student's primary care physician
  • Obtain and maintain accurate and current medication orders and parent permissions
  • Maintain medicine cabinet with all medically approved medications, supplies and equipment
  • Provide appropriate and necessary nursing action at time of student injury, determining the communication to the family with the Social Worker
  • Record and process all student/staff injuries on the appropriate accident/incident forms
  • Together with the RN, instruct all staff in the Health and Safety Procedures annually, establishing appropriate reviews
  • Seek RN assistance and accept his/her direction during a medical emergency and carry out all procedures established
  • Monitor the general health and safety standards used within the educational program
  • Administer inoculations to staff and/or children as approved by the Medical Director
  • Administer and document PPD screenings to designated staff as assigned by the Lead Nurse and running them by an RN for interpretation
  • Carry out all nursing responsibilities, including the lifting, moving and positioning of students
  • All other duties as assigned
