About The Position

The Institute for School-Community Partnerships, Integrative Services, and Child Mental Health and Educational Policy (ISCP), part of the College of Education, aims for all schools in Florida and nationally to provide safe, effective, and efficient environments for continuous improvement in academic, social, and emotional growth of all students, and to actively engage families and communities in education. The ISCP, with a nearly $23 million budget from federal, state, and private grants, implements and evaluates research-based and innovative practices. This is achieved through training, technical assistance, support to key partners, community-engaged research, program evaluation, development of research and evidence-based documents, tools, and resources, and supporting the infrastructure and capacity of key partners to implement and evaluate federal and state educational policy. The School Improvement Coordinator provides support and monitoring of plans (School Improvement Plan, District Managed Turnaround Plan, Turnaround Option Plan) for schools and districts in the BSI Region 2, Florida counties. This position involves working directly with school leadership and staff in assigned regions, ensuring and monitoring compliance with state and federal requirements. It requires a deep understanding of quality teaching and learning in the classroom, the ability to identify strategies and develop systems to improve classroom instruction at the district and school level, knowledge of Florida's Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking, and the ability to use and analyze data to determine instructional needs. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for effective working relationships with all stakeholders. The position requires at least 75% travel within the state for meetings, workshops/conferences, and site-related monitoring and instructional reviews. This position is grant funded.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of what quality and learning 'looks like' in the classroom

  • Strong presentation skills and ability to deliver technical assistance in a method understood by stakeholders
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated skill in ensuring accountability for all stakeholders in the school reform effort
  • Strong analytic and interpretation skills
  • Ability to orchestrate change and meet tight timeframes and balance multiple, competing priorities while maintaining goal directed behavior/performance
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws, rules, policies, procedures related to school improvement (SI)
  • Ability to travel both within the state at least 75% of the time for meetings, workshops/conferences, and site related monitoring and instructional reviews
