About The Position

Performs hot and cold food preparation for Morgridge Academy’s school breakfast and lunch program following guidelines, standards, and procedures established at the state level by the Colorado Department of Education and by the USDA at the federal level.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • A minimum of 1 year high volume/high production food service experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Serve Safe certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews menu and plans for food preparation for the following day which may include pulling meat for timely defrosting according to menus.
  • Organizes cooking schedule to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Prepares and serves foods using exact portion controlled servings assigned for each age, to grade levels K-8.
  • Preparation includes hot and cold food items, according to recipes as required.
  • Occasionally prepares bagged lunches for school field trips.
  • Completes 6 hours of continuing education as required by the USDA.
  • Completes a daily Production Record detailing food items prepared, served, and returned.
  • Has an awareness of safe food handling procedures to avoid cross-contamination and foodborne illnesses.
  • Maintains an awareness of individual student allergies, in conjunction with school clinic nursing staff.
  • May occasionally participate in student projects centered around nutrition education.
  • Learns the USDA school cycle menu software and becomes familiar with an assortment of weekly nutritional requirements for each grade.
  • Occassionally attends required off-campus, in-person training with the Food & Nutrition Services Director, at a CDE location.
  • Cleans and sanitizes work area surfaces, cooking equipment, drawers, shelves, equipment, utensils, storage areas, and walk-in refrigerators.
  • Covers, labels, dates, refrigerate or freezes leftover food items as appropriate.
  • Restocks supplies as needed.
