Edgemont School District 23-1 is seeking a highly skilled and dependable School Business Manager to join our small but mighty Mogul team. This position plays a vital role in supporting district operations by managing all financial functions, human resources processes, and compliance responsibilities. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
  • Experience in school finance, public entity accounting, or HR strongly preferred
  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain accuracy
  • Proficiency with accounting software, spreadsheets, and payroll/benefit systems

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the district's full accounting cycle, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and journal entries
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for the Board of Education and Superintendent
  • Lead annual budget development, budget monitoring, and year-end closeout
  • Process payroll accurately and on time, including deductions, benefits, and reporting
  • Complete all state and federal financial reporting requirements (including annual reporting, audits, and special program reporting)
  • Work collaboratively with auditors, state agencies, and vendors
  • Coordinate HR functions, including job postings, hiring paperwork, contract preparation, and personnel file management
  • Manage employee benefits, payroll changes, FMLA/leave tracking, and retirement system requirements (SDRS)
  • Serve as the main point of contact for staff regarding HR processes.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and ensure compliance with state and federal employment laws
  • Support grant accounting, tracking expenditures, and submitting required financial documentation
  • Maintain purchasing procedures and coordinate vendor relations
  • Participate in board meetings
