Requirements

  • Education: A master’s degree or higher in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program is required.
  • Licensure: An active license to practice as a School Social Worker in Colorado, such as a Colorado Department of Education Special Services Provider License with a School Social Worker endorsement.
  • Experience: Previous experience working in schools or with children and adolescents is preferred.
  • Completion of a school-based internship is highly beneficial.
  • Language Proficiency: Bilingual skills are preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Assessments: Evaluate students’ social, emotional, and behavioral needs to identify barriers to learning and recommend appropriate interventions.
  • Provide Counseling: Deliver individual and group counseling to address issues such as mental health, social skills, and family dynamics, as outlined in students’ Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or other support plans.
  • Collaborate with Teams: Work closely with teachers, administrators, special education teams, and other staff to create a supportive learning environment for students.
  • Develop Interventions: Implement evidence-based strategies to address students’ challenges, enhance coping skills, and improve academic and social outcomes.
  • Engage Families: Partner with families to provide guidance, resources, and referrals to community services that support students’ well-being.
  • Advocate for Students: Ensure students have equitable access to education by advocating for accommodations, resources, and services they need to succeed.
  • Monitor Progress: Track and document student progress, using data to refine interventions and provide reports during IEP meetings or other team discussions.
  • Promote Positive School Climate : Contribute to initiatives that foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment, such as anti-bullying programs, crisis intervention, and social-emotional learning activities.
