About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Education, the School & Community Program Manager plans, creates, implements and oversees the daily operation of the Museum’s programs for schools and community organizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in science education given preference, but consideration given to related degrees such as education, communication or interpretation
  • Two years education-related experience, program design, implementation, and evaluation with focus on interactive, hands-on programs/activities
  • Two years of managerial or demonstrated supervisory experience which includes planning, scheduling, reviewing and evaluating the work of others
  • Experience handling and caring for a variety of live animals and/or willingness to learn
  • Knowledge and experience of science and interpretation
  • Ability to nurture existing partnerships and establish new partnerships with teachers and school district administrators
  • Familiarity with evaluation and assessment methods for formal and/or informal learning environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and evident enthusiasm to communicate science to all ages in an engaging, professional manner
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and use critical decision-making skills, as well as work harmoniously with team members
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite applications
  • First aid, CPR and AED certified or willingness to become certified

Responsibilities

  • Uphold the highest quality of the guest experience through equitable, respectful interactions that meet the unique needs of each guest and team member
  • Be conversant in the Museum’s mission, exhibits, programs, and events to enhance the guest experience
  • Analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate (ADDIE) all school and community programs to ensure that they meet state science standards and/or other compliance requirements (when applicable), the Museum’s mission, vision, guest experience service philosophy and practices, and other education initiatives
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with schools and community organizations to determine program (ADDIE) to expand Museum audiences
  • Develop and manage the annual budget for schools and community programs
  • Work with the Registration Coordinator to administer registration process of school and community programs
  • Incorporate best practices in science education, such as inquiry-based learning, hands-on activities, an interactive experiences, to enhance the learning experiences for guests
  • Assist the Human Resources Generalist in the hiring and orientation process of paid and unpaid formal education team members
  • Supervise staff and volunteer education team members, including providing appropriate training, managing schedules, assisting with projects and goal-setting, and evaluations
  • Assist with the care, maintenance, and training of the Museum’s live animal collection
  • As needed, work with the Senior Manager of Exhibits and Interpretation to provide educational content fo r permanent and temporary exhibits
  • Collaborate with Education team members and the Advancement Department to design and implement school and community program marketing plans
  • Collaborate with the Early Education Coordinator to implement professional development courses for educators, paraprofessionals and administrators
  • As needed, assist other Education team members with programs, events, exhibits and other initiatives
  • Collaborate with the Director of Advancement and the Director of Education to assist with grant applications/proposals to fund programs as well as providing necessary documentation or reports
  • Collaborate with the Registration Coordinator to manage the grant funded programs
  • Assist the Gallery Interpretation team in the care and maintenance of the education collection of specimens and program-related resources
