About The Position

As a YMCA camp counselor, you'll help create a safe structured, and fun camp experience for children entering kindergarten through 5th grade by: Supervising and engaging groups in a safe, fun, and positive environment Plan and lead age-appropriate games, crafts, sports, and outdoor activities Support campers' social skills, confidence, and independence Communicate clearly with campers, families, and coworkers Follow daily schedules and established routines This Job is for You if You: Enjoy working with elementary-aged children Want to build leadership skills and serve as a positive role model Are patient, dependable, and energetic Are 18 years or older Have a high school diploma or equivalent Have prior experience working with youth (camp or childcare experience preferred)

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions including heat in excess of 90F, high humidity, and rain.
  • Ability to be in water/pool for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, walking, and hiking on uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
  • Comfortable administering first aid and exposure to bodily fluids and communicable diseases is possible.

Nice To Haves

  • Have prior experience working with youth (camp or childcare experience preferred)
