About The Position

QUALIFICATIONS Required: General clerical skills to include ability to type 60 wpm, excellent spelling; Excellent computer knowledge and skills; Surgery knowledge and terminology; Demonstrate superior telephone and communication skills, Both oral and written; ability to maintain good relationships with surgery personnel and medical staff. Preferred: Previous Medical Background; Medical Terminology TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS Must have good general health; be able to sit for long periods; able to lift 50 pounds or more. Must be able to work independently, as well as with co-workers, doctor’s offices, and physicians. Must be able to prioritize activities and be able to follow directions from the Director of Surgical Services. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: __ Maintains anesthesiologist call schedule. Communicates with Anesthesia Billing Office. __ Prepares call schedule for entire department on a monthly basis and distributes appropriately. __ Responsible for training and assisting of job duties with the other scheduling secretary which include the following: __ Train House Supervisors and new surgery schedulers from the surgeon’s office. __ Scheduling of all surgeries and obtaining all information at time of scheduling. __ Compiles Surgery Statistics monthly and yearly. __ Process all Surgery, OB and Pharmacy charges based on information obtained from Patient Charge sheets. __ Performs responsibilities as delegated by the Director and Unit Manager and other duties as assigned. __ Coordinate with SPD manager to bring in requested implants/supplies for surgery cases. __ Interacts with patients, surgeons, and other staff both within the hospital and other outside facilities, providing accurate, and timely information. __ Works directly with the surgery buyer to maintain current/new implant and supply charges. __ Participate in weekly huddle with SPD, OR Charge nurse and Surgery buyer to identify scheduling conflicts and make sure proper equipment/implants are available. __ Excellent verbal and written communication, maintains effective working relationships. Works independently with co-workers, doctor’s offices, and physicians. __ Demonstrates appropriate use, knowledge of equipment needed for assigned area. __ Communicates all special cases (special orders, self-pay, etc) to appropriate areas. __ Demonstrates competence in relation to the defined mission, vision, values, and strategic plan of the organization. __ Cross train to cover preOp clinic secretary __ Apparent by ongoing completion of any or all of the following: proficiency testing, skill demonstration, practice of core standards for service excellence, and documentation review. __ Maintenance and creating new preference cards for Surgeons. __ Training new staff in the Well and OnBase programs.
