About The Position

Canyon Vista Medical Center, part of Lifepoint Health, is seeking a Scheduler. This role is vital to the mission of making communities healthier by prioritizing employee well-being. As a Scheduler, you will be responsible for scheduling patient testing, procedures, and admissions, obtaining pre-certification/authorization numbers, accurately entering insurance information, and answering incoming phone calls. You will also communicate special instructions and testing requirements to patients or physician office staff, maintain awareness of next-day scheduling reports, obtain physician orders, and ensure consistency between scheduling and admissions modules. Canyon Vista Medical Center is a 106-bed acute care hospital with over 60 years of service, offering a Level III Trauma unit, Center of Excellence for Total Joint Replacement, Level I Nursery, and American College of Radiology Accredited Facility. The hospital is located in Sierra Vista, Arizona, a city known for its temperate climate, affordable housing, low cost of living, and access to healthcare, education, and outdoor activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent Required or at least three years of directly related experience may be substituted for the required education
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Computer experience required

Nice To Haves

  • Prior scheduling experience in a healthcare environment is strongly preferred
  • Medical terminology, billing, and/or collection experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Schedules patient testing, procedures, and admissions
  • Obtains pre-certification/authorization numbers and enters them into the scheduling or registration system
  • Collects and enters accurate insurance information
  • Answers incoming phone calls
  • Schedules patients for ancillary, surgical, and medical testing, procedures, and admissions, ensuring patients are not scheduled when personnel are unavailable
  • Notifies patients or physician office staff of any out-of-network carriers or issues that may result in reduced benefits
  • Communicates special instructions, testing requirements, and any other pertinent information or documents to patients or physician office staff
  • Maintains awareness of next-day scheduling reports to ensure registration staff are prepared for arriving patients, appropriate testing is performed, time slots are available, and the necessary staff are scheduled
  • Obtains physician orders and required authorization or pre-certification
  • Enters outpatient procedures into the Order Entry System
  • Ensures consistency between the scheduling module and the admissions module for patients being admitted for services
