About The Position

The Scheduler is responsible for scheduling surgeries, appointments, tests and/or procedures specific to their physician practice. This position provides customer service to patients, family members and external customers. The Scheduler requests and verifies receipt of other medical test results and surgery clearances. This position verifies insurance coverage, obtains prior authorizations, and educates patient on insurance coverage and out of pocket amounts. This position may provide back-up coverage to other non-clinical positions. Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 year Physician Office Required

Responsibilities

  • Schedules surgeries, appointments, tests, and procedures specific to their physician practice in-person or by phone, using Electronic Health Record; coordinates external vendors, multiple physicians, and surgery locations as required.
  • Maintains the scheduling system, including maintenance of physician-specific schedules and coordinating with schedulers at the surgery site for time and physician-specific preferences; verifies records are accurate and complete.
  • Coordinates insurance, including verification of coverage, obtaining prior authorizations, and educating the patient on benefits and out of pocket amounts.
  • Requests and verifies receipt of medical records, test results, and clearances for surgeries/procedures.
  • Calls patients on the patient recall list for follow-ups, and mails recall letters to patients.
  • Processes refills through incoming calls, electronic requests or faxes, and sends to the nurse or provider for approval.
  • Provides back-up coverage to other non-clinical positions.
