About The Position

PotlatchDeltic is seeking applicants to fill a Scaler/Guard position at the Gwinn Lumber Mill. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and secure operation of the lumber mill by identifying and monitoring wood quality, maintaining site organization, handling data and equipment, ensuring security, coordinating with operators, and providing excellent customer service. The hourly pay rate for this position is $25.95. Typically, rotating three 12-hour shifts one week & four 12-hour shifts the next week. Shifts rotate every two weeks from days to nights. Day Shift is 6:00am-6:00pm. Night Shift is 6:00pm-6:00am. Required to work every other weekend and various holidays. Shift differential is $1.50 more per hour, for hours worked between 6:00pm-5:00am. Production & Quality Identify logs as to species and quality per the mill’s specifications Monitor wood quality entering the mill from supplies and lumber shipments leaving the site Operate scale for inbound and outbound trucks; input accurate data using 3LOG/LIMGS computerized system Maintain wood yard and plant site in accordance with log yard plan for all four seasons Maintain security at the gate entrance Make security rounds through Mill property Communicate and coordinate with kiln and boiler operators Interact positively with contractors, drivers, vendors, and the public providing excellent customer service Input accurate data using ISN system Load trucks with various products using a loader All other duties assigned by Supervisor Safety & Environmental Operates all equipment in a safe manner and maintains a clean work area. Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and authorized to work in the U.S.
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • A good attendance, work, and safety record
  • Ability to work weekends
  • Basic understanding of computers and window-based programs
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain loader certification
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain CPR & First Aid Certification

Responsibilities

  • Identify logs as to species and quality per the mill’s specifications
