About The Position

The Scale Desk Operator is responsible for identifying and weighing inbound and empty trucks, accurately recording information such as grades, splits, and weights, and directing trucks to appropriate locations. This role requires active participation in the company's Safety Program, adherence to OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations, and maintaining strong professional relationships with customers and carriers to ensure efficient truck movement. The operator will also complete documentation timely and accurately, and may assist with other duties such as ground piles, cleaning bins, and rail duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of computers and software including, Microsoft Office.
  • Basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization.
  • Strong multi-tasking skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Able to follow direction and to use logical thought process to interpret oral and written instructions and troubleshoot problems.
  • Ability to work well both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to remain focused on exceptional customer service, both internally and externally.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years’ experience working in an industrial environment, operating a scale desk, with a dependable work record.
  • Experience using inventory management software (i.e. AWS, SAP) is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attends daily pre-shift meetings.
  • Perform all duties within compliance of OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable), including wearing appropriate PPE for task being performed.
  • Identify inbound trucks; weigh in trucks, record information.
  • Electronically record information required e.g. grades, splits, weights etc.
  • Direct trucks to the appropriate location.
  • Weigh in empty trucks and accurately record information.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with customers and carriers, while keeping the truck line moving.
  • Complete documentation timely, accurately and legibly.
  • Other duties as assigned.; including assisting with ground piles, cleaning bins, rail duties, etc.
