About The Position

Under the direction of the Administrative Supervisor, a Scale Administrator weighs retail customers’ material or trucks carrying material on a truck scale, utilizing the system program to weigh in, weigh out and pay customers for product. View and inspect material via camera. The Scale Administrator will also assist customers in a professional and positive manner, with inquiries related to Alter Metal Recycling via phone and in person. This is a critical role, stability and dependability are a must. To ensure success in this position you will have the ability to maintain a sound knowledge and be an effective communicator. The top candidates are detail-oriented, motivated, and have excellent people skills.

Requirements

  • Prior experience with trucking, data entry, and industrial workplace safety is helpful.
  • Basic math skills
  • Experience with radio communication, CB and 2-way radio communications
  • Proficient computer skills, with the ability to use a personal computer and know how to navigate and use Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, are a must. Excellent active listening skills are preferred.
  • Strong people skills. Ability to interact and communicate with all kinds of people, both externally w/customers and internally w/members of other departments.
  • Motivated, energetic person with a driven work ethic and time management skills.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk and lift up to 50lbs, for short and long periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Customer Service Experience with the ability to handle both customer and company employees with respect.
  • Previous Computer Knowledge
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

Responsibilities

  • Use Software to record the weights of incoming and outgoing vehicles by visually verifying inbound/outbound vehicles on scale deck; enter weight in computer.
  • Logging information relevant to each truck or retail customer vehicle, including vehicle type, tags, driver and material by visually verifying with the use of a camera system; enter code in computer.
  • Log shipments, purchases, etc. into a centralized database
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized working environment. This is a shared workspace.
  • Process payment of customers by check or cash, verify information, pricing and material is correct on ticket for corresponding customer.
  • Ensure all safety rules and regulations are given and followed by customers and truck drivers, provide PPE if necessary.
  • Answer and identify customers’ needs on the phone and email with professionalism. The customers’ questions most commonly asked are: regarding pricing, material identification, directions etc.
  • Greet and direct all customers / truck drivers upon entry of the lobby and answer phone calls in a professional tone.
  • Handle administrative/general office duties including but not limited to entering information, filing paperwork, managing, and developing reports, etc.
  • Duties will also include gearing up with your PPE and walking outside in all types of weather to check customer loads.
  • This is a fast-paced working environment, multitasking is a must. Responsibilities may change daily.
