About The Position

SCADA Operator Role Purpose The SCADA Operator is responsible for real-time monitoring, control, and first-level response of automated material handling systems through the SCADA platform. This role serves as the central nervous system of the DC, ensuring system uptime, safe operations, and rapid issue identification and escalation to Maintenance, PLC Engineering, and Operations teams. The SCADA Operator plays a critical role in protecting throughput, minimizing downtime, and enabling fast recovery in a highly automated environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (technical certification preferred)
  • 2+ years in automation operations, control room, or industrial systems monitoring
  • Hands-on experience with SCADA platforms (e.g., Ignition, Wonderware, WinCC, FactoryTalk View)
  • Strong understanding of automated material handling systems
  • Ability to read system dashboards, alarms, and basic logic states
  • Strong communication skills under pressure
  • Experience in a highly automated DC or manufacturing environment

Responsibilities

  • Monitor SCADA, WMS/WCS dashboards, alarms, and KPIs in real time
  • Start, stop, reset, and sequence automated systems per SOPs
  • Validate system status across conveyors, sorters, AS/RS, shuttles, robotics, and MHE
  • Identify abnormal trends, bottlenecks, or system degradation early
  • Perform first-level triage for automation faults and system alarms
  • Execute safe recovery actions within defined authority limits
  • Accurately classify incidents (controls vs. mechanical vs. software vs. operational)
  • Escalate issues to Maintenance Technicians, PLC Engineers, IT/WMS, or Operations leadership as required
  • Support root cause analysis by preserving logs, screenshots, and timelines
  • Act as the primary interface between Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering during disruptions
  • Communicate system status, risks, and recovery ETAs clearly and calmly
  • Support volume recovery plans during peak, surge, or constrained conditions
  • Ensure controlled restarts after maintenance or outages
  • Maintain detailed incident logs and shift handoff notes
  • Track downtime events, alarm frequency, and recurring issues
  • Identify trends and recommend system or process improvement
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to automation reliability
  • Enforce lockout/tagout and system safety protocols
  • Ensure no unsafe commands or restarts occur
  • Support a culture of safety-first automation operation
